Cagliari, Sardinia (Italy)

After our long second day it was really nice that we could sleep in and enjoy the sun on out third day before we arrived in Sardinia. We ended up docking around 1:30 pm, and this is what we saw as we approached...

It is certainly not the south of France, but it was cute all the same. From being to another part of Italy before, I was expecting to see a place where some of it looked beautiful and then some of it looked run down...and that is exactly what you will find in Cagliari. It is a big city, although it seems very small, and is dominated by the fishing industry. Tourism is also up there as the beaches are really nice, but I can easily say that out of the three this was my least favorite of all the destinations. We took an excursion called "Panoramic Cagliari" and that was definitely most of what it was. We started out a bit in the city and then climbed our way up to different points where we could get some good photos and we did.
Here is a good street shot. Most of the streets are very narrow...its a wonder if the apartments on these streets ever get sunlight as they are that close.

After traveling by some of the few sites (churches, mob prison, etc.) we ended up at an amazing spot to get two different views of the area.
One of views was of the city...

And the other was of the beaches and lagoons...

The light green bit in the middle is a lagoon that is a salvation for many pink flamingos...and the beaches, as mentioned, are very pretty. The beach and lagoon side made for a great back drop for TJ and I in our "Sardinia picture"!

After we toured more of the city, we were taken to an authentic Sardinian restaurant where we sampled the local cuisine (and wine). It was very plentiful too! We had two different glasses of wine, a table red and a moscato, as well as our pick of fresh olives and tomatos, cheeses, breads, and cured meats all from the area. It was delicious and a perfect end to the excursion! The bus soon took us back to the boat, and TJ and I could not believe that dinner was to be served within the hour! So we got ready and then headed to dinner and a champagne bar for dessert!
The cruise continues with our day in Sicily tomorrow!!!
Auf Wiedersehen!
