Arena of Pop

Last weekend we were going to attend a Michael Jackson memorial party and see the lighting of the Heidelberg Castle, but we decided to got to an outdoor concert in Mannheim instead. We certainly missed out on the only MJ party I know of, but there will be another castle lighting in September we made a good choice. The concert was free and in open air in front of the Mannheim Palace. Here is a look during the day...

There were tons of people in attendance and it was sponsored by Rothaus Pils...so the music was playing and the beer was flowing from 1 pm into the late night. These two enjoyed it very much!

They also served hard liquor and food...so you really didin't have to go anywhere else. Oh and the bathrooms were plentiful, so much so that neither of us ever had to wait! These little stands were lining the street leading up to the castle and the one that ran in front of it too. Between the bier, bier pretzel, and pommes frites I think I had a carbolicious evening.

It was great fun and the bands were really amazing for the most part. We saw a band called The Hooters from Philly, a German band called Silbermond, and an Irish band called Reamonn. I LOVED the German band and am thinking about purchasing their music to better help me with my German. We left while the Irish band was still playing and you could see and hear them for a long time. Here is a look from a few blocks away.

I think they have it every year and we will definitely go next year too!
Auf Wiedersehen!
